The doctors and managers at Beth Israel Medical Center in Manhattan could have treated Huguette Clark and sent her home, then followed up with a request for a donation. Instead, they allowed her to stay in the hospital for twenty years, repeatedly coming back to her for larger and larger donations. Huguette made plain that she wanted to stay in the hospital, that she felt safer there, and fired a private-duty nurse who insisted Huguette go home.
